It’s an exciting time for science fiction fans in cinema. After all, there have been a string of top-notch superhero movies, such as The Avengers, Man of Steel, Edge of Tomorrow, and who can forget the upcoming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice movie coming out in 2016. Of course, I’m amped for the upcoming rendition of the caped crusader vs. supes. But this is second, undoubtedly, to the upcoming release of Star Wars: Episode VII due out in theaters on December 18, 2015.

I am especially giddy because Star Wars has been part of the inspiration behind the Worlds Without End series. In fact, some readers have even referred to my books as Mormon Star Wars novels.

Who isn’t excited for this new story arc within the Star Wars universe? Just to give you some background, Star Wars: Episode VII will take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. What’s even cooler and what has science fiction nerds frothing from their mouths is the fact that Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Peter Mayhew will be reprising their roles as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca respectively. The film’s main characters will be the children of Han and Leia.

While there is the good side, there will also be the dark side. In J.J. Abrams‘ depiction it appears that the old Empire is holding on. And with the Empire comes the stormtroopers. Since the story is rumored to take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, the classic troopers will get an upgrade to a modern, sleeker look. With filming set to conclude in three weeks, images are beginning to leak across the internet regarding the new look stormtroopers.

According to the Indie Revolver, the stormtroopers’ battle armor will be upgraded from the bulky, classic look (as seen below) . . .

. . . to a sleeker, modern look.

As you can see, the difference is remarkable. I believe this new look makes the stormtroopers actually look intimidating compared to the old, almost, comical look. ScienceFiction.com also reports that there will be subcategories of stormtroopers in the film, all with different looks, such as a new snow trooper. Concept art has even been released depicting a new Chrome Trooper.

Below are the new images of the new look stormtroopers. What do you think? Are you as stoked as I am for this new rendition of the Star Wars saga? Leave your comments below.
